Preventing ATM Theft
Many business owners are concerned about ATM physical security; a concern that CA$H ATM takes very seriously. Our ATMs have multiple high-security protection measures available to prevent ATM machine theft. We work with business owners to develop a security solution that works for your unique situation.

Deterrence
- Locate the ATM away from doors and windows that could be points of entry.
- Place the ATM near obstacles such as furniture, walls, display shelves, etc.
- Ensure the ATM is in a brightly lit area.
- Add warning labels about security features such as location tracking, security alarms, surveillance cameras, and security ink.
- Locate the ATM within view of any security cameras.
- Post signs stating cash is emptied from the ATM on a daily basis.

Prevention
- Securely bolt the ATM to the floor using a device that can withstand vehicle impact.
- Install a security belt or enclosure around the ATM for extra physical security.
- Take advantage of the ATM’s multiple locking mechanisms and internal safe.
- Use a security ink system that will dye the money and mark it as stolen.
- Use an audible alarm or siren that is triggered when the ATM is moved off its base.
- Add security armor weights to make the ATM heavier & extremely difficult to move.
- Install bollards designed to withstand high levels of impact to prevent damage to a location’s front entrance.

Detection
- Use security camera footage to help law enforcement identify criminals.
- Install sensors that trigger an alarm the moment the ATM is tilted or jostled.
- After hours, use motion detectors to send an alert regarding suspicious activity.
- Install glass break sensors that alarm upon any glass window or door break in.
- Use security software to get real time notifications if the ATM machine is attacked or if the cash vault is opened without authorization.
- Use heat sensors to detect the extreme heat from a torch and activate an alarm.

Recovery
- Use a GPS tracking chip to locate an ATM or cash safe that’s been stolen.
- Employ security ink to mark bills and help law enforcement recover stolen money.
- Use real-time tracking with a 24/7 ATM GPS tracking service.
- Set up a Geo Fence to identify the location where the ATM should operate so the ATM can be tracked in the event it is moved beyond a predetermined distance.
- Install an ATM security system that can be tied to the existing building alarm to notify law enforcement and send alerts when the ATM is compromised.

Safeguard
- ATM insurance protects against potential damage and losses related to the ATM machine and the money inside of it.
- CA$H ATM maintains insurance to cover the machine and the cash we load.
- Some business owners choose to load their own cash and add the ATM to their property insurance as a business fixture.
- Business owners may also obtain their own ATM property loss, crime, and liability insurance to cover any damage to their business as a result of an ATM theft.
We work with each business owner to determine which of the above security precautions make sense for their unique business situation.
The first and most desirable line of defense is deterrence, which means making a criminal ultimately decide against the crime. The next key is to establish as many obstacles as possible to make it very hard and time consuming to steal the ATM. Most criminals don’t want to spend more than a few minutes at the ATM, so the more obstacles and delays they encounter, the more likely they are to abandon the theft attempt.
